Regenerate with Fireweed

Fireweed is one of the first plants to grow in the wake of a wildfire. It’s nutrient carrying rhizomes grow far beneath the surface and remain protected even when fire sweeps through. It thrives on soils rich in ash and minerals that are newly exposed to sunlight.

Fireweed carries the Leo archetype. As such, it is a pioneer. Fireweed transforms the post-fire landscape by offering nectar to pollinators and nutritious leaves and stalks for large mammals such as bear, deer and elk. Fireweed will dominate a post-fire landscape until the ecosystem is restored and thriving on its own. At that point, it recedes and focuses its energy elsewhere.
